The collaboration supports Specim’s development from hyperspectral imaging technology toward increasingly integrated solutions for industrial and machine vision applications. Specim RETEX, developed through collaboration between Specim and Konica Minolta, is one example of how these complementary capabilities can be brought together in a practical industrial solution.

New developments in hyperspectral imaging

VISION 2026 will mark an important milestone for Specim’s camera portfolio. At the start of the event, Specim will unveil a new hyperspectral camera designed for applications requiring high spectral performance, fast connectivity, and practical system integration.

Taking hyperspectral integration further with new SDKs

Specim will also introduce the next step in its developer and integration offering with the Specim GigE Vision SDK.

Software development tools have long been part of Specim’s offering through the Lumo software family. As Specim’s camera portfolio has evolved toward GigE connectivity, the integration tools are evolving with it. The new Specim GigE Vision SDK has been developed to support straightforward integration of Specim hyperspectral cameras into machine vision applications and customer-developed systems.

The SDK represents an important step in Specim’s roadmap toward making hyperspectral imaging easier to integrate within established machine vision environments and workflows.

At VISION, Specim will also preview the next step in this development. Selected customers will have an opportunity to explore a beta version of the upcoming Specim HSI Processing SDK, designed to bring hyperspectral data processing capabilities directly into customer-developed software and workflows.

Together, the two SDKs extend integration from camera connectivity to hyperspectral data processing, giving developers and system integrators new possibilities for building hyperspectral imaging into their own solutions.

Specim RETEX – AI-powered hyperspectral textile recognition solution

Experience hyperspectral imaging in action

Visitors to Booth 10D80 can see practical demonstrations showing how hyperspectral imaging reveals material information beyond the capabilities of conventional imaging technologies.

The Specim RETEX Lab, equipped with a Specim FX17 hyperspectral camera, will demonstrate AI-powered recognition of textile materials. Developed through collaboration between Specim and Konica Minolta, Specim RETEX combines hyperspectral imaging and AI to identify fibers, blends, elastane, and impurities, supporting applications ranging from textile analysis and quality control to automated material separation.

For industrial inspection, a demonstration featuring the Specim FX19 and PCB samples will showcase how hyperspectral imaging in the extended NIR/SWIR range of 1130–1920 nm can reveal material differences that may be difficult or impossible to distinguish with conventional machine vision.

Visitors can also explore the Specim HI400 hyperspectral illumination system and see examples from the broader Specim imaging portfolio, including the Specim FX50, Specim SX25, and Specim Cube.

From textile recognition to fiber-to-fiber recycling

Specim’s CCO, Sami Toljamo, will also take the stage at VISION 2026 to discuss how hyperspectral imaging and AI can help address one of the fundamental challenges facing textile circularity: accurate material recognition.

Less than 1% of textiles are currently recycled fibre-to-fibre. EU legislation now requires separate collection of textile waste, but collection alone does not enable recycling – you cannot recycle what you cannot sort.

The presentation will explore how Specim RETEX uses hyperspectral imaging and AI to identify textile fibres and blends in real time, enabling automated material recognition and providing the information needed for more effective textile separation and processing.
