Specim has been the workplace of two young experts, Riina Hemmilä and Fernando Engels, this summer.
Riina is a laboratory technician and final-year physics student at the University of Oulu. She has been working in the After Sales Support team during the summer. She’s been helping customers when they face technical difficulties, or hyperspectral cameras are not working as they should. Riina already had previous experience working with Specim cameras in her master thesis and knew some people at Specim.
“I thought the technology and the applications for the hyperspectral cameras were interesting, and therefore I decided to apply for Specim,” Riina explains.
Fernando is a nuclear engineer graduate from Instituto Balseiro in Bariloche, Argentina. He came to Finland to continue his studies in Erasmus Mundus master’s degree in applied photonics. Fernando has been working in the Research and Development team on hardware repeatability tests and characterization of camera sensors.
“I was studying at the University of Eastern Finland in Joensuu and was eager to stay in Finland during summertime. So, I asked one of my professors for recommendations of places to do an internship. He recommended Specim, which was very related to my field of study, so I was extremely excited to apply for an internship,” Fernando says.
Riina and Fernando think working at Specim has taught them a lot. They have enjoyed the wonderful working community and team spirit.
“The colleagues have been really nice and helpful. It would be rather difficult and time-consuming to find solutions to customers’ issues alone, so help from others is required daily. I have also been free to spend time in the production facilities and learn more on anything if I have time or interest,” Riina says.
“This is my first time working in a tech company, and this new environment taught me a lot. The work environment at Specim is great. I was a bit nervous at first entering the company as a foreign, but soon my anxiety wore off as everyone here was super nice and welcoming. My colleagues are always willing to give me a hand and explain everything with a lot of patience,” states Fernando.
